Returns & refunds

Last updated: 3 October 2026

This is an English translation of the Icelandic returns policy (Skil og endurgreiðslur), provided for information. The Icelandic text prevails in case of any discrepancy.

This page describes how you return goods and get a refund from The Arctic Marketplace (operated by Sindri Már Bergmann Tryggvason, sole proprietor, reg. no. 151195-3349). The rules are based on the Consumer Contracts Act no. 16/2016 and the Consumer Sales Act no. 48/2003 and apply to consumer purchases.

14-day right of withdrawal

You have the right to withdraw from a purchase within 14 days without giving any reason.

The withdrawal period expires 14 days after the day on which you, or a third party designated by you (other than the carrier), take physical possession of the goods. If you ordered several items in one order and they are delivered separately, the period expires 14 days after you take physical possession of the last item.

To exercise the right of withdrawal, you must inform us (The Arctic Marketplace, Skógartröð 7, 600 Akureyri, info@arctic-market.com, phone +354 888 7299) of your decision by a clear statement, e.g. an e-mail or a letter. You may use the model form below, but it is not obligatory. To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient to send your notice before the period has expired. We will confirm receipt of your notice by e-mail.

How to return an item

  1. Send a notice to info@arctic-market.com within 14 days of delivery, with your order number and details of which item you want to return.
  2. Send the item back no later than 14 days after you sent the notice, to:
The Arctic Marketplace, Skógartröð 7, 600 Akureyri.
The deadline is met if you send the item before the 14 days have passed. Items must never be sent to the manufacturer or abroad.
  3. You pay the direct cost of returning the item, unless the item is defective or we sent the wrong item. Items are returned with Pósturinn (Iceland Post) and the cost depends on Pósturinn’s price list. We recommend a tracked shipment.
  4. You may examine the item and try it on as you would in a shop. If its value is diminished by handling beyond what is necessary to establish its nature, characteristics and functioning, you may be liable for that diminished value, and it may be deducted from the refund. We will let you know in advance if we believe this is the case.

Refund

  • We refund all payments received from you, including the original shipping cost. If you chose a more expensive shipping method than the cheapest one offered, we do not refund the difference.
  • The refund is made without undue delay and no later than 14 days after we receive your notice of withdrawal.
  • The refund is made to the same card used for the purchase, also when you paid with Apple Pay or Google Pay, via the card acquirer Teya, unless you expressly agree otherwise. You will not incur any fees as a result of the refund. It may take a few days for the refund to appear on your card statement, depending on the bank that issued the card.
  • We may withhold the refund until we have received the item back or you have supplied evidence of having sent it, whichever is earlier.

Items that cannot be returned under the 14-day rule

  • Personalised goods: goods made to your specifications or clearly personalised (Art. 18(c) of Act no. 16/2016). In the shop these are goods produced with a name, text, image, logo or design that you supply, e.g. flags with your design, ship flags with a boat’s name, posters with your image and shirts “with your design” or with your logo. These items are marked “Sérmerkt vara – enginn 14 daga skilaréttur” (personalised item – no 14-day right of withdrawal) on the product page and you confirm this before you order.
  • Sealed food (e.g. mints) if the seal has been broken after delivery (Art. 18(e) of Act no. 16/2016).
  • Company products based on a quote and other purchases made in the course of a business. The right of withdrawal applies only to consumer purchases. Business purchases are governed by section 14 of the terms.

Standard print-on-demand products from the shop with our own designs, in the sizes and colours offered, are covered by the 14-day right of withdrawal.

Defective, wrong or damaged items

If an item is defective, damaged on delivery or you received the wrong item, please contact us as soon as possible at info@arctic-market.com or by phone at +354 888 7299, with your order number and a photo if possible. We will remedy it free of charge by repair, a new item, a price reduction or cancellation and a refund, in accordance with the Consumer Sales Act no. 48/2003. We pay all shipping costs in these cases.

This also applies to personalised goods, including if the produced item deviates from the proposal you approved. The exception from the 14-day rule does not affect your rights in respect of defects.

Let us know without undue delay after you discover the defect. The period for complaints is, however, never shorter than two months from when you discovered it. You can rely on a defect for two years from delivery, or five years if the item is intended to last considerably longer than usual.
